The Career Game begins with a color-coded workbook that helps students connect everyday experiences to general areas of career interest. After completing the written part of the exercise, each student uses this site along with a personal I.D. number to connect workbook scores to the jobs that most closely match his or her hobbies, heroes and favorites. The result is a personalized career scenario for any educational level desired.
Each job is presented along with a brief description that can be expanded to include the entire text of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook. The workbooks and matching job recommendations are organized similarly to the RIASEC Hexagon model, which was pioneered by Dr. John Holland and used by the Dept. of Labor in their O*Net publications.
This site also provides links to other interesting web resources as well as articles of interest to the process of career investigation.
The Career Game products include a wide variety of materials for counseling professionals, including print materials, videos and CD-ROMs. Teachers and counselors are invited to check out www.careergame.com for more information.
